Hi Mercedes, I recently started playing banjo and one night while eating dinner I was listening to the Girl from Ipanema and thought hey I should try to learn this on the 5 string. Anyway that led me indirectly to finding you on YouTube playing that tune on your banjo. You have such a great voice and such a nice approach to playing music and I just wanted to pass that along , best of luck to you. Tobias

I was viewing your videos online and have been a fan of yours for such a long time! I recently started to teach myself some acoustic guitar, it is going ok but could use some more guidance and maybe some formal lessons. I was so excited to stumble upon your website and to see you teach ballroom as well and German ( we are from GERMANY) I taught ballroom for about 7-8 years, I also have been playing piano for about 25 years. I was also excited to (actually yelled "woo-hoo" pretty loud when I stumblled upon your website to learn you are HERE IN CHICAGO!!!! I noticed you play at the heartland which is where my family and I had breaksfast this morning....) anyhow, I am sorry to ramble on , I suppose it isn't hard to tell my passions (music, bossa nova, jazz latin jazz etc.) I hope to hear back from you as I am hoping to schedule some lessons. Talk Soon and with Warmest Regards! Tanja MIchelle Buhler 847-456-0623 Direct tanja@athoffdesign.com Landscape Designer/Owner Atwood Hoffmann Design www.atwoodhoffmanndesign.com

That really all I can say, I first saw you playing "desde que o samba é samba". And since then, I can't stop watching. Right now, I'm listening to "sonho meu", on your youtube channel. Now it's your "wave" version... Anyway, I came here to say that I liked it very much, really. Your "desde que o samba é samba" touched me, really, your voice was so sweet, and your portuguese was delightful, and you guitar playing was superb! (And, to be honest, I was surprised by your accent while singing in portuguese, that is, there was practically none of it, amazing, that's a rare and amazing thing indeed. Have you been to Brazil, or studied portuguese?) Anyway, what I wanted to do was to say that I was thrilled by your music, and that, as a brazilian I felt also touched to see such jewels of our culture so wonderfully performed. I just saw that you also have a masterful performance of the one that's perhaps my personal favourite, Cartola, you played "o sol nascerá a sorrir", marvelous. Have you ever played a Noel Rosa song? That's Cartola opponent in my heart... =) Anyway, sorry for the loooong message, I just wanted to say how moved I was, and that, should I ever get a chance, I'm gonna see you play Goodbye and keep up with your great work!

Hello Mercedes, I have been enjoying your videos since you started making them. I play with a kids band in Chicago--Little Miss Ann. Inspired by your version, we do our own banjo uke version of Abba Dabba Honeymoon. Here's a song I submitted to the Bosko and Honey Contest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7FmHnNvnO0 Also, come to the Chicago Ukulele Cabaret Shows at Sylvie's. The next one is Dec. 5. Jeff

Oh Lord, what can i say... Hearing you sing El Chullita Quiteno! my god, was something else! you sing like an angel y se que decir eso es mas bien algo impulsivo de alguien que no conoce de musica asi como tu pero en realidad es lo que me provoca decir al no poder hacer un analisis mas adecuado de tus obvias cualidades y fantastico talento, que bien por ti, me gusta mucho escuchar tu musica y espero que te vaya siempre de lo mejor... i think that i can assume that you are from Ecuador... good to know (if you are) about a fellow Ecuadorian with such huge talent and magnificent genius! from now on i'm proud to be a fan of yours Best wishes VMM

Subject: Discovering Brazilian Music
Mercedes, I wanted to express my appreciation for your lovely singing, playing and the spirit of humor and striving that carries it off. I am a musician and software developer working in the New York metropolitan region where I live with my wife and my 10 year old son. My musical focus has been mostly on ensemble singing especially the music of the Renaissance. I have recently (2006) taken up the guitar (again...) working on classical technique. Recently, on a whim I cannot explain, I decided to do an informal study of Brazilian music this summer using the guitar and my voice. I found a teacher in Brooklyn named Billy Newman who is instructing me in the ways of Brazilian music. What I find amazing, and I really should know this being a web developer, is how the web has revolutionized how we learn. For example, my teacher handed me a song on a lead sheet I did not recognize - 'Sampa' by Caetano Veloso, a composer I had no reckoning of. I stared at the music (I can read fluently) without comprehension. I stopped by youtube a few days ago to get a taste of the music and I find this whole world I knew nothing about: Veloso, Jobim, Gilbertos, Gonzagas, Pixinguinha, Powell, Elis, Rio, and so on. What a gift to hear the smooth throated man himself singing Sampa (I love your version on Banjo). Many commenters on your video postings complement your talents, but one poster characterized you as a 'beautiful songbird'. This seems oddly on the money given the portal into your world opened by Youtube. This is what I appreciate most about your work: the gift of song, the trust in your giving it and the the joy shining in your face as you send it out to us. Bravo and thanks. Joe
